    Experiential Learning for Online Instructors: Teaching a "Teaching Online Courses" Course of Course!

    This was basically the same as we in TeLS offer to Faculty with the Teaching with Technology courses. Matthew uses a highlighted list of Best Practices from Quality Matters, as well as the Sloan-C Rubric. This course is actually for students who are moving into education to teach with technology.
    Once again the office area is not a place to attend virtual sessions. Never again will I do this.

    Sloan-C 2014 Virtual Attendance
    This year was the beginning of my face-to-face teaching of the wonderful Zumba® classes which have now become some of the best times here at Yavapai College. Because of this new adventure, I was unable to travel to Sloan-C to attend. This was a sad observation as I love the ability to chat and network with attendees. This was also a first for not presenting. Both have been hard to acclimate myself to.

    experience. The hardest part to thisexperience was not bad for myself in this session, I had a live view. The virtually attendees missed a few remarks, facial expressions and other "things' that you just cannot get when in attendance "live".
    Before I begin with
    the time zone difference. Employment hours are specific. If an early session wassummary, I just need to be attended,mention that it is best to attend these where there are no distractions. This is something I will work on with the next virtual attendance. This was latenot the case for work. This caused two to be missed. Physically,my first virtual experience as I would have sat in a seat drinking my coffee ;-D

The room shad round tables with computers and white boards to the sides of tables. An instructor could walk the room and if one table asked a question, he/she could use the space right there to address whole room. The room being presented at the session had pillars in a few areas which houses cabling and wiring. These were finished with mirrors to project a continual space.
    I was then interrupted once more to assists a MAC Tegrity User. This is another reason I will probably stay home for the next virtual attendance.

    Interesting talk of Open Educational Resources to be made available. These presenters has departments very similar to that of CTEC. In fact, they have some OPEN LINEMAN resources for all to use.

    This was a vendor session so the product was a Top Priority here. The actual software was not bad. It seemed to have a good Return on Investment (ROI) with a cost neutral appeal. The design is very simple and easy to use. This is something the committee to review new LMSes may wish to review...This one actually integrates into the other systems.

    This was an excellent presentation. Very well thought out and designed. She went about explaining how to meet the needs of students both inside and outside of the classroom. This was achieved by utilizing components already in existence. I wish I could have focused more but...yep...you guessed...In office. Bad place to be with attending virtually. Too many distractions.
    I did take note of a few things Tanya utilized. Of course, the big "YEA!" moment for me was the use of Second Life Virtual Lab 2. I have always said there is more to Second Life than just a social atmosphere. There are great places in this virtual environment to explain many genres of Higher Education. These are my words...not hers...
    The next place she mentions was Scoop.it. This is a very unique way to organize and present material, as well as aggregate information. It's all about "sharing ideas". These can be shared to social media with a click.
    Pheed was another app Tanya mentioned in her presentation. I believe the Google play describes this Pheed well.

    In this session the presenter explained the paradigm shift of the faculty from pegegogical teaching to social teaching as well as moving from managerial to technical. This particular person chose to use videos to enhance the course he taught. By utilizing the Video Anywhere within the content manager (Blackboard), he added himself to the course (so to speak).
    Videos were added with Weekly Announcements, Weekly Assignments, and one initial welcome video with how to use the course. Sounds like something I woudl enjoy doing...Oh Wait! I do this now!

The team also kept a running tally and offered an award for the Top Leader on the leader board. They stated that many faculty were against the childish notion of gaming, yet, they were the first to get badges. Just goes to show you the power of being a competitor.

    Anyway, the university had an issue of no faculty showing for specific and non specific trainings. These pro grow sessions were offered every semester from basic use with the Learning Management Platform to using technology within courses. Usually no one attended or the same one or two would be present. The team of designers set out to find a new and exciting way to get faculty involved. They started offering Badges.
    When a faculty member participated within a specific training, a badge was awarded. The badges appeared on a website next to faculty names. They were also given stickers to add to a pre-designed "sticker board". These badges were designed in house and ranged from course design, course content to computer applications. One could even win a badge for having their course observed. There was no end. f the team thought it, it was designed.

    I was happy to start with this one. One of my all time favorite things to do at work is test new technology and see what is out there and how it can apply to higher education. This one did not fail to bring new items to the inventory. A lot of the applications are synchronous. This was a plus. For our online world, we could use more "same time" communication. At the time of the presentation, most were FREE. A few request money for a better quantity of "stuff" to use. I could go into great detail on each of these and state which can be embedded, or which is feature heavy. Instead, how about you take a look for yourself. I am sure you'll find one or two that are worthy of use
